Whats included in a service
 
Outboards
 
Servicing is carried out to a high standard , in accordance with the manufacturers service guidelines.
 
A service will normally include the following as appropriate:
 
 
2-Stroke  

Compression check.
Replace spark plugs.
Replace fuel filters, check breather hose and fuel lines.
Clean carburettor.
Inspect thermostat.
Drain and remove the gear case.
Pressure test gear case.
Strip the water pump from the gear case for inspection.
Inspect gear case bearings.
Reassemble water pump, replace impeller.
Refill and refit gear case.
Check the propeller nut and pin, shear pins, lubricate splines.
Check electrical wiring and connections.
Check oil level in reservoir for engine injection systems.
Check anodes and bonding wires.
Lubricate at designated points.
Check power tilt/trim fluid level and operation.
Undertake a general check of the tightness of nuts and bolts.
Check and test the battery.
Check deadmans switch and neutral switch.
Run engine. Adjust throttle and gear shift controls, synchronise carburettors if necessary.
 
 
4-Stroke   
 
Compression check.
 Replace spark plugs. 
Remove cylinder head cover, check the tappet clearances and take any necessary action. 
Replace fuel filters, check breather hose and fuel lines. Clean carburettor. 
Inspect thermostat. 
Inspect timing belt. 
Drain and remove the gear case. 
Pressure test gear case. 
Strip the water pump from the gear case for inspection.
Inspect gear case bearings. 
Reassemble water pump, replace impeller. 
Refill and refit gear case. 
Check the propeller nut and pin, shear pins, lubricate splines.
Check deadmans switch and neutral switch. 
Check electrical wiring and connections.
Run the engine, drain the engine oil, remove and change the oil filter. Refill the engine oil. 
Check anodes and bonding wires.
Lubricate at designated points. 
Check power tilt/trim fluid level and operation.
Undertake a general check of the tightness of nuts and bolts.
Check and test the battery. 
Run and check for leaks Adjust throttle and gear shift controls, synchronise carburettors if  necessary.
  

 
Diesel Inboards
 
Servicing is carried out in accordance with the manufacturers hours of use guidelines. Where this is uncertain a checklist can be put together covering  the different engine servicing elements. 
 
A diesel service will include elements of the following as applicable:

Diesel  
  
Engine cooling - Visual check for leaks, examine condition of hoses and fittings.
Fuelling of engine - Visual check for leaks, examine condition of pipes and fittings.
Replace fuel filters.
Valve clearance check and adjust as necessary.
Replace/clean air filters as appropriate.
Change coolant as required.
Inspect raw water pump.
Reassemble raw water pump, replace impeller as required.
Check/clean raw water filters.
Clean cooling system as required.
Check engine alarms.
Exhaust hose and anti-syphon check.
Inspect and adjust Vee belts.
Inspect thermostat operation.
Drain the engine oil, remove and change the oil filter. Refill the engine oil.
Check transmission oil.
Check engine/transmission mounts.
Check engine electrical wiring connections.
Check grounding wires.
Undertake a general check of the tightness of nuts and bolts.
Check propeller shaft and couplings.
Check and test the battery.
Run and check for leaks and proper operation.
